Da Dia Reef: A Truly Masterpiece of Nature

Where is Da Dia Reef?

Da Dia Reef (Da Dia Rapids) in Phu Yen is in the An Ninh Dong commune, Tuy An district, which is 35 kilometers from the center of Tuy Hoa.

Follow Le Duan Street in the direction of Tuy Hoa City. Then go straight to Long Thuy and start walking toward An Hai Bridge. After that, use Google Maps to find Da Dia Reefs.

The site is a stretch of beach with many huge basalt columns that look like plates stacked on each other.

The main area of the Da Dia Reef scenic spot is about 2,700 m2, and the basalt stone columns there look like two capes that reach out into the sea.

The first cape sticks out in the north, with sharp, curved stone columns. The second cape is in the south and is mainly made up of stone steps and columns from low to high.

Formation History of Da Dia Reef

Scientists say that when many lava flows from volcanoes on the Van Hoa Plateau met the cold water of the sea, they froze and broke up.

Also, it has a strange shape that is still very perfect because of the many lava flows that continue to freeze and separate.

Other than the Da Dia rapids in Phu Yen, there are only four places in the world that were made this way:

Giant’s Causeway on the northeastern coast of Northern Ireland, Órganos Rock Rapids on the Spanish island of La Gomera, Fingal cave on Staffa Island in Scotland, and Jusangjeolli disc rapids in Korea.

Due to volcanic activity and the Van Hoa plateau, many studies show that these rocks are up to 200 million years old.

The lava flows toward the sea but meets water and “force allergy.” This is why Phu Yen now owns this fantastic thing.

In 1997, Da Dia Reef was named a national landscape by Vietnam’s Ministry of Culture and Information, now the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism. 

The Prime Minister of Vietnam announced Ghenh Da Dia as a special national monument at the end of 2020.
